A trip to the Nile River

This past Saturday a group of us went for a boat ride to the Source of the Nile River which is where Lake Victoria meets the Nile River. Where I'm living in Jinja, we are really close to the Nile River (which is the longest river in the world) and I've had several opportunities to go see it. We've gone for dinner to the Jinja Sailing Club which is right on the banks of the Nile and we've walked to the shore a couple of times. But I hadn't had the chance to actually take a boat ride yet. In my mind I pictured rushing water and a big commotion but it was actually really peaceful. The area where the two bodies of water meet is very shallow (the guide told us why but I couldn't quite hear him or understand) and the current is calm. It was still a cool experience though as we were able to see lots of birds and even a bunch of monkeys! We took four of the kids with us (Fred, Isaiah, Justine, and Mariam) and they loved it too. It was nice to have a bit of a break from our regular schedule.

I can't remember what kind of bird this is but it was so small and so colourful!

Here's one of the many monkeys we saw

There are  fishing villages that line the banks of the Nile River and here are some huts in the middle of the water with souveniers to buy.

This is the group of us that went on the boat ride.

On Friday we leave for our Safari and I am so excited to see all the animals (except for bugs, snakes, and spiders)! I will definitely be doing a blog with picture from that some time next week. I only have two weeks left here in Uganda and I can't believe how fast the time has flown by. I've made lots of new friends and met the cutest kids and I will be sad to say goodbye to them. I am so grateful that God has blessed me with the experiences I've had so far and look forward to more in the coming weeks. He is so good!
